YOUNG GENTLEMEN'S
SCHOLARSHIP BEAUTILLION
Service to mankind, the promotion of scholarship, knowledge and achievement are the four major
objectives of the Alpha Phi Alpha Delta Chi Lambda Chapter. In keeping with these objectives, the
members of our chapter continue the tradition today. This project initiated in 1986, by Dennis Bedford, Marvin Bell, Carl Birks, Dr. William Finlayson, Reuben Harpole, Bonnie Newby and Richard
Williams has enabled the Foundation to provide college scholarships and financial assistance to over
200 young men. Many have received their degrees and gone on to higher achievements.
For almost 30 years, the Alpha Beautillion has been a vehicle for many to help support the educational dreams of our youth. In addition, it showcases some of Milwaukee's finest career bound high school males who have demonstrated a desire to excel in life yet may lack some of the financial support and encouragement by peers and mentors needed to turn their dreams into realities.
Service and participation points are awarded over a six-month period for various activities such as: a
Rites of Passage Program, fundraising efforts, community service projects, various educational
activities, college preparatory workshops , and a Career Showcase. With other similar activities to
occur, the following academic year. Each Beau is assigned an advisor and professional mentor from the foundation and a community-based sponsor.
More than $15,000 in scholarships can be awarded at the culminating Beautillion Ball in Milwaukee,
WI. In addition to each Beau receiving a $400 Book Scholarship (once the minimum criteria has been
met), one beau will advance to be crowned Mr. Beautillion and receive a $5,000 Grand Scholarship.
